This site is written by the person who makes the iPhone app Learn French - Travel & Speak (in Japanese, フランス語会話), under the trade name skcreation. Japanese is my first language.

Before my trip to France, I prepared little more than a few greetings. In the shops and hotels around the sights in Paris, English did the job. In a small town in the Provence countryside, it didn’t always. Starting with Bonjour softened people’s manner, I pointed at menus and shelves plenty of times, and more than once a reply came back in French that I couldn’t follow.

The café, restaurant and shopping conversations in the app are built from what I actually said and heard in shops on that trip. The app has one aim: someone starting from zero French practices the words they’ll use on a trip until they come out within a few seconds.
